Episode 21: Cultivating Wellness and Spiritual Practices to Prevent Burnout

2020 has been a challenging year for Healthcare Providers. The pandemic has placed many Healthcare workers at and past their capacity to manage.  With no known treatment, cases, and deaths continuing to rise, so many providers are struggling.
In this episode, I interview a past guest, Dr. Clark Gaither.  He is known as “Dr. Burnout” and is so knowledgeable on this topic.  Dr.  Gaither, is a family physician, is currently the Medical Director of the North Carolina Professionals Health Program and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He discusses the impact of the COVID pandemic on providers.
Dr. Gaither defines wellness and what that looks like including resilience, hardiness, engagement, taking care of yourself, and not putting others’ needs before your own.  He discusses working on balance physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
He discusses what having a spiritual life means and how it’s different for everyone and the positive impact it can have.
He reviews core values and living your life according to your values is a sign of wellness.
